Japan has temporaly stopped ODA to Vietnam until Vietnamese goverment shows its willingness and commitment in the fight against corruption. This step seems to have good impact on the way Vietnamese goverment handles the PCI scandal. Does UK goverment have any initiative against corruption in Vietnam, especially relating financial aid from UK?
Thanks
Corruption is an issue the UK takes very seriously - we have a zero tolerance approach to the misuse of UK funds. We have a risk and control framework in place to ensure funds are spent as intended, including risk assessment and internal and external audit reviews of all our aid programmes.
Dear sir
Do you think the financial crisis badly affect the relationship of Vietnam and UK?
Thank you.
Many of us around the world are affected by the global financial crisis. But this is no time to retreat into nationalism and protectionism. The UK is a staunch supporter of fair global trade and free markets. Both the UK and Vietnam depend on trade for our prosperity, so we have a shared interest in fighting any protectionist tendencies. It is important that we follow these principles in order for us to get through the current crisis and emerge ready to prosper again.
