My older daughter Sarah Kim-Lan, aged 19, has a good understanding of Vietnamese although she cannot speak it fluently. My younger daughter Emma Kim-Van, aged 13, does not understand Vietnamese. Since we were, until recently, the only Vietnamese family in the town in which we live, there are not many opportunities to practice. In April, however, Sarah will be going to stay with my wife's family in Ho Chi Minh City and she will work in a childrens' charity for three or four months and I hope that when she comes home she will be speaking Vietnamese.
